German POWs were treated like way way better than African American soldiers. They were basically considered just on the wrong side and should be treated as any other solider who's body is unclaimed.

They worked on farms in the US, had days off and could even go into town and mix with civilians.
I met someone awhile ago who’s grandfather was a German POW in The south who met his waitress grandmother cause the POWs ducked into a restaurant their black guard wasn’t allowed inside cause of Jim Crow.
The German POWs on average thought it was for real kind of fucked up.
On the other side the Germans had a mixed relationship with African POWs mostly cause the French and British had a habit of sending waves upon waves of them at German positions in all the recent wars.
So sometimes the most equal treatment they saw in their lives was the German POW camps who just labeled them captive combatants.

When I visited Normandy the Germans had their own separate cemeterie which were actually pretty nice. Lots of graves over there.
