That's pretty much how it always is with trending hashtags on twitter that have a rightward bent. When you go to check it out you just see people complaining about the hashtag and/or using it in a way contrary to how it was initially intended.

A recent example was something like OpenUpAmerica trending. I clicked on it half expecting it to see a bunch of conservatard twitter complaining about the lockdown, but it was all people saying shit like 'If you OpenUpAmerica it will kill black and brown bodies and spaces' or whatever.
