I don’t really know if I would consider it run down. There are areas like east of uptown on lake street that are kind of shitty, but most of downtown is halfway decent, albeit sort of sketchy. It’s not like it’s fucking Memphis or anything, that was the weirdest downtown I’ve ever seen. Basically everything outside of Beale looked like shit

People say that, and it's certainly true to an extent, but it's also true that this is pretty much the only effective means of protest. It just gets like 10X more coverage and shows an opposition to state power that can't really be replicated by other means.

The sad truth is that nobody gives shit about non-disruptive "Peaceful Protests". Pride events and the women's marches are just dumb h*e-parties that nobody not there pays attention to, pickets outside of the courthouse or the police station with g*y chants can be walked past without even noticing them, etc etc. Only disruption can actually affect change- sometimes that means violence, sometimes that means blocking traffic, whatever. The reason people ask for these people to do protests with f*ggy signs and chants and an official permit and route is that those guys can be ignored- look at the attention and the anger at the whole situation stirred up by the violent vs the peaceful protests in Minneapolis. The second didn't even really get coverage on the news- the story would be dead in the water by late today if that'd been it.
