My problem with this...men are feeling left behind ideology is that a large part of their frustration that is that they feel they are losing power. What they perceive as losing power is actually women finally being able to speak for themselves and can speak up when treated poorly.

Serious posting for a second, why is it a fake science? Are the studies done not scientific? If they are, why do we continue to take them seriously?

I should say that the vast majority of it is fake science. Most of the studies are built to show what the "researchers" want them to show. Want to show a gender wage gap? design a study that eliminates certain data points and then you can show that there is a 27% wage gap! Want to show that women are being sexually assaulted in large numbers, redefine what the definition of "assault" is, ask women a bunch of questions, apply your definition of assault to their answers, then publish. The fact that the women you interviewed don't view it as assault has no bearing on the findings, you've proved your point.

Seriously, as long as you include your definition of the "assault" in the study somewhere (usually buried in the middle), you can get away with this and the academics see this as legitimate. It's literally how we got the "1 in 4 college women are raped" statistic.

Another one that really kills me in the social sciences is that there are a bunch of studies that just get dropped because they didn't show what the researchers wanted them to show. When I was in my Masters program I worked on a research project for over a year. Until the data got parsed.

We were doing a ground breaking meta data study. We were going to PROVE that minorities are over represented in crime statistics because of economic factors. We controlled for every variable you could think of, geographic, income, parents, ect. Well the numbers showed that it isn't that it isn't minorities who are over represented, it is men who grew up without fathers. No matter the color of their skin, community they grew up in, or how rich/poor their parents were.

That study died immediately, because it didn't fit the narrative.

Fields like psychology and sociology are notoriously bad at being scientifically rigorous, have a lot of bias and agenda in them, and there's a lot of misuse of statistics in the field. Iirc some group tried to reproduce a bunch of psychology experiments and about a third couldn't be reproduced and another third showed a much smaller impact than the original experiment.

Social science is called fake because of a few factors.

1. Replication issues
2. The nature of psychological testing makes it less robust then other sciences

Largely pre-supposed outcomes. Lack of statistical knowledge despite empirical papers depending on statistical significance. Cherry picking for empirical evidence, and ignoring counter evidence.(this is a big one).

Dude, my many condolences. I feel extra stupid because it took me seeing the obvious bias and fraud to wake up, but by then I was less than a year from my MS so I finished it. Then I went into IT and haven't used my degrees at all.

I'm eventually hoping to become a psychiatrist, so I see psychology as a stepping stone to an end goal, and my classes are easy so I'll probably stick with it.

Good for you. I actually know two different husband and wife combos who are psychiatrist/psychologist pairs. The wives do the therapy portion and the husbands do the prescriptions. They are incredibly effective at treating some hard cases.

Oh, and Psychiatry is not soft science. It's emerging science. We still know so little about how the brain works.

Social science is for people who are not smart enough to study real science/ engineering but not pretentious/ highbrow to study arts/ business.
