What movie should I start with go bring back the Film Club?

1  2020-06-27 by Mrtheliger

I was told a good idea to sort of give everyone a heads up before the meeting, so I'm doing this as well in order to really have everyone get their voices heard. So please, let your opinion be known! Vote for your pick! And yes, I have been on a sort of Paul Thomas Anderson kick recently haha.

I really liked The Florida Project.

Is that the motel one?

Yeah, with Willem Dafoe.

i wasn't doxxed, but i don't enjoy reddit as much as i used to. it feels like an addiction or a distraction at the moment and it's surprisingly sad how often i am noticing myself think "oh you should take a picture of this and share it" or "that's a funny story you should post this", i don't seem to enjoy doing things for the sake of it any more and rather it's me trying to get reactions out of people, whether that's disgust or laughter. last month i challenged myself to take a week off reddit because i noticed i was on it too much, i lasted 2 days and then started coming back on now, so recently i just thought fuck it i need to be able to go more than 2 days without going on here, that's not healthy. i was going to write something more in depth but i really just need to stop coming on here for a while, i said a month to myself so i'll go for that. the more time i spend on reddit, the less time i spend doing other things and it's not worth it for me. i see people spending so much time on social media and said i never wanted to be like them but i have become like that. so ill probably make a blog/video/something in a few weeks just to talk about it properly because i think a lot of people will be in similar positions and won't be aware of it or willing to try and change.

there's a lot on my mind at the moment so i just need to step back and think about what i should do now.

I haven't seen any of them, but Lawlz already did an Invisible Man post so not that one.

Not even The Patriot?

Not even The Patriot :(

Thanks and it's a heck of a selection

I didn't vote for lack of the best.

I recommend Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas and or Three Billboards outside of Ebbing, Missouri

Fear and Loathing is actually one of my favorite movies! I just haven't gotten around to featuring it yet, surprisingly.

I wasn't a big fan of Three Billboards, but if you'd like to be a guest host and do a feature on it I'd love to have you!

I feel we should be discussing movies that reflect the nature of this sub as a whole.

I recommend "Happiness" by Todd Solondz.

Well I try to pick movies that are more accessible and digestible to the common man, but that is a good recommendation nonetheless!

I second Happiness

Well, so, I can only imagine that Fear and Loathing would be and is a hard tale to review. Hunter Thompson's story and the movie adaptation is so deep that it's hard to really talk about it, it just has to be seen and known through the lense of people who have experienced such things.

Ebbings is a different story, of course but a good one nonetheless.

Maybe Evan Almighty? How about that one?

Sorry you didn't like Billboards, I thought it was good. Maybe one day.

Three billboards had a basic story to me. Acting was phenomenal though.

Fear and Loathing was better as a book than movie. I like Johnny and the aesthetic but the story basically just seemed like nobody cared or really developed. It was fairly monotone

Aim small, miss small.

Star Wars, obviously

I actually had planned on doing one for Episode III, but I never got around to it before. Maybe this reboot will prove fruitful for the Star Wars fan in all of us!

I feel like the only ones worth watching are the 3 sequels or Han Solo

Well, I can't say that I personally agree with you, but if you'd ever like to guest host a meeting to try to show me their merit I'd love to have you!

I dont understand, what kind of meeting? Are you not social distancing because that would be problematic? Also, how do you know where I live?

I don't see the option for Monster's Inc

Man without a past

Adaptation

The raid: redemption

Imagine ever watching any movie other than Heat or The Last of the Mohicans.

...Whiplash?

Human centipede 1

Gnfos

This is not drama sub in the sense of a play for theatre, radio, or television.

It's drama in the sense of an exciting, emotional, or unexpected event or circumstance.

I'm not sure what you mean. This is simply a club where the nice members of our community gather to talk about movies.

in bruges

"Pink Flamingos" would fit this sub well.

Not florida project, it was boring and I am a huge fan of subtlety and art house and indie.

Magnolia might be too complex for a meeting.

The invisible man has everything from acting, fast pace and seems like a fun one.

Invisible Man would be better since it's more recent and honestly a really fucking well-made thriller. TWBB is obviously more kino, but there are more layers to delve into, people may not have seen it for years, and discussion may be sparse

I honestly only remember Dano (Classic Dano), a bowling alley scene, an awkward dinner , a weird church, and DDL crying while covered in oil

Tom cruise was based in Magnolia

World's Greatest Dad

I like the usual suspects
