Drama from afar: Recep Tayyip Erdoğan vs. Social Media

So, today's topic in Turkey was governmental regulations regarding social media. Erdoğan said they were going to introduce a bill to take control of social media. While Al Jazeera says this was because people insulted his son-in-law (who is also the Minister of Treasury & Finance), more probably it was because a video conference that took place last week. Recep Tayyip Erdoğan decided it was a good idea to pander to Gen Z via a video conference with some youngsters. It went as expected. The video now has 100K likes and 400K dislikes. The chat box is filled with "NO VOTE FOR YOU" messages. The comment section is also disabled, of course. I think now Erdoğan realized how much the Gen Z and millenials hate him. Also he realized social media is not really a friend of his so he decided to take it away from us. At least that's my I guess.

Now, another aspect of this is how the opposition leaders reacted to this. At one point Erdogan said "Now do you realize why we hate social media sites such as Youtube, Twitter, Netflix?"

IYIP's (one of the opposition parties) leader Akşener retweeted with comment "If you shut down Netflix before I finish watching the last season of DARK I'll be offended.", the main opposition party CHP's leader Kılıçdaroğlu commented on Akşener saying "Now Erdoğan is going to give spoiler to spite you :)" . And HDP's (another big opposition party) leader Pervin Buldan said "We also were waiting for the last season of La Casa De Papel 😔" [1 2 3]

People (especially young people) took these as mockery & unseriosness, so of course they were not pleased with it. It's kind of a serious business when the government threats people's rights so we expected a more serious approach from party leaders, alas...

Anyway, the main take away from all this: Boomers really, really don't know what young people like or don't like. They are all r/fellowkids material.

The only point you'll ever have is that you represent the sad, fedora-wearing, bloated face of capitalism in the 21st century.

Unfairly made famous and rich through copied ideas and appealing to kids. And yet is driven by some bizarre need for attention to spout insane, teenage edge lord style views. You are clearly not all that up on politics (or anything, maybe you can code?) yet your wealth has given you an oversized platform of confused 12 to 16 year olds to yell "sjwjjwjwj" at over and over again.

Honestly, I don't give a shit if you've been driven mad by fame or some bullshit. When I see amazing creative people dying depressed in poverty every day and you get to sit on twitter and make half assed 'now yur the nazi' comments, it's fucking sickening.

how much the Gen Z and millenials hate him

I'm trying to think of what he's done right during their time and I'm drawing a blank.

Well, the country is still standing somehow... So that's nice

The last season of La Casa De Papel was so shit not even Ursula’s blessed ass could salvage it.
