The Moon mission was supposed to be the beginnning of something grand. Set up a permanant base there, then Mars by 1980 and asteroid exploitation shortly after. Humanity would become an interplanetary species and the threat of nuclear annihalation would be mitigated. This is what von Braun and so on thought would happen. Why else would you spend billions on a space program other than to become a spacefaring civilization? Instead the US decided that it had shown the Soviet Union that it had a bigger benis and quit while they were ahead. NASA lost its drive and turned into a bureaucracy.

The Moon Mission is the greatest humiliation in US history. It shows how pathetic and retarded the US government is. They're like an autistic shounen MC who gets cucked by a chad and goes on a multi-season training arc to develop mystical powers and unearth lost techniques. Finally he returns and defeats his adversary in a legendary duel. Then he forgets everything he's learnt and goes back to normal, celebrating his past achievement instead of actually building on it.
