Those who gave him a platform in an attempt to control his ideas to garner support for the conservative party, tolerated his disgusting rhetoric, ultimately became the victims of his crimes right alongside everything else.
This guy probably has no desire for nazi’s to rise to power. But his message is wrong, and “open discussion” leads to a massive open door for exploitation. But platforming white supremacy is dangerous, and demonstrably harmful. I can keep giving you examples of this but I feel like you wont get the point anyway.
This world isn’t the free and pretty “battle of ideas”. Some speech is demonstrably harmful and creates horrendous consequences.

Debates are for the audience, not for the participants. You debate someone to reveal the weaknesses in their arguments to other people, not because you will change the mind of your opponent.

Depends. "fascism" is better defined as a set of emotional traits. When I look at the American conservative movement, all of those traits are there, and they're almost the mirror image of other proto-fascist movements.
You don't actually have to know you're pushing fascist rhetoric to slide into authoritarianism and proto-fascism.
The Trumpian base is about as close to a fully functioning proto-fascist movement as I've ever seen.
"Proto" fascism would be the theories which predated and historically developed into fascism, which is a political philosophy. I think you mean neo-fascism.
In any case fascism is focused on individual and corporate unity with the State. I don't believe that the Trumpist base desires that. They may want their guy to have more power to achieve goals they support, but that describes booth political parties and most political movements in the last 25+ years.

Exhibitions included a printout of the 4chan thread with trips that predicted Trump winning, and guests included the guy that inspired Breivik as well as people openly supporting David Duke. Also included some work by some epic frogtwitter accs (Kantbot, Menaquinone if you know him - RIP Mena). Apparently this dude was involved with that.
Not that this justifies them attacking the guy, but just gives broader context - wasn't literally just some random dude standing out there with a sign.
