Rich and Jack were quite clear that they stopped Previously Recorded because the channel wasn't growing at the rate that they wanted (though you can definitely put that on them) and Jack in particular didn't think it was worth his time since he wasn't making enough to justify putting his day job off to the side.

I stopped going to the RLM sub ages back cos it's an unfunny circlejerk of creepy weirdos but somebody needs to tell those freaks to just accept it when somebody else doesn't like the thing you like. RLM fans are apparently the new Rick and Morty fans.

I really think fan interaction as a whole is overrated. I mean content creators shouldn't be in parasocial relationships with their viewers and vice versa. Just let the people who make things you like be people who make things you like.

I think the paradigm shift in toxic fandoms probably was best illustrated in Gamer Gate. I’m not going to get into the particulars or choose a side in what happened but a lot of really cruel and unnecessary actions by both sides showed how ugly and toxic social media has made fandoms and their members. Personally I think it was the spark for many other causes that got ugly.
