Their fucking mortgage makes no fucking sense. 1.6 million dollar mortgage is a hell of a lot fucking more than 3900 a month. I'm about to have a loan on 600k that is going to be pushing 3k.
On a 30 year mortgage, 3900/month is about right. 3900 x 12 = 46800 x 30 = 1.4M, then add in whatever the interest rate is. But aren’t interest rates 0% right now for homes in the US? A lot of people I know are refinancing their homes to take advantage of it.
Saving $38k in a 401k and $12k in a 529 plan each year; that's 14.2% of gross income which is pretty much what's recommended. I didnt know struggling could be defined as being on track to retirement while living a great upper middle class life.
Recommended only means that this is reasonable for a median person to save without making any big lifestyle sacrifices, and that's also around 20%.
These aren't people earning 60k before taxes, barely managing 15%. They're making 350k, and your expenses don't suddenly baloon up in a new tax bracket (if you're not a retard) . 30-40% is very easily achievable here, just live like you make 150k(and even that isn't a small amount).
It's like you think that retirement is candy that the state hands out only if you've been following the guidelines real well and been a good boy.
If you're making over 250k a year after taxes and don't have the peace of mind of knowing you can comfortably retire to some Mediterranean micro-state after 6 years then you've fucked up.
lol I haven't spent $400 on clothes in 25 years total as an adult, and I have a wardrobe (ok not really, just piles of dirty/in the middle/clean in rotation) of Carhartt, Patagonia, Arc'teryx, OR and North Face.
I only purchase new underwear and T-Shirts. I only once purchased a high end jacket but it was one of those fell off the back of an Amazon truck Marden's deals. I have dozens of expensive brand's clothes, they're just near ten/one billion years older than myself and that was just from my previous home in a 66k pop city where I could never exploit for the estate sales and cheap facebook sales I get in my new borderline city.
I'm going with both, anyone that doesn't realize their friends and family all have an excess of childrens clothes they are dying to get rid of are r-slurs.
Maybe don’t live somewhere that has a median home price of $1.6 million? You could easily cut down that mortgage payment and property taxes. Also a Toyota Highlander is a pretty nice car, there are other SUVs that can be bought new for cheaper, not to mention used cars.
They actually typed those words into the spreadsheet. They could have just said, "car payment" but they specifically wanted us to know that they were "sacrificing" by not having a range rover.

Hilarious that anyone would consider entertainment and vacations a part of their expenses and not as an allowance to their budget.
Also, owning a 2 million dollar mansion.

Also paying $2k/month into a mortgage asset. It's really not that bad.
2 Johnny_Kilroy_84 2020-08-04
Investing only 50k per year on 350k gross income is absolute trash.
1 black_panther_sucks 2020-08-04
Not really, that’s close to 15% which is the recommended amount. How fuckin much do people normally put in here, 40%?

No you tard, most financial institutions recommend at least 15%. Agree on the last part though

Their home payments are also an investment, in a way. That property value isn't going to fall.

Be left. Spend 2 grand a month to send your kid to an overweight baby sitter with an AA.
Be right. Spend 2 grand a month to send kid to private religious school with an overweight nun.
They really are the same.
16 theworstever 2020-08-04
Nuns are less likely to rape your kid or use them for toddler fight clubs though

$400 a month for clothes? Do they wear everything once? That's a $100 bucks a person.
Dunno what the woman spends but this year I've bought 1 pair of pants and a pack of socks. I gotta step my /r/streetwear game up.
7 Albert_Cole_ 2020-08-04
Either they’ve leant way too hard into the baby and toddler shit or they’re mentally retarded. Or both.

HOW MUCH on entertainment? Jesus Christ. Their finances are obviously run by the children of the family. I was better at budgeting when I was 17.

Imagine being poor enough to have a mortgage.
Also charity begins at home. Why would you send $3600 to charity when you could really use that money yourself.
