This is exactly the sort of stuff McCarthy was trying to avoid by meeting with Trump and extending an olive branch. McConnell inserting himself into this is going to backfire. McConnell is not popular with the GOP base. His meddling in the past in GOP primaries outside of KY led to infamous Cotton Hill impersonator, a man who likes 'em young, Roy Moore, being the GOP nominee for the senate race in 2016. Alabama ended up having a democrat senator for six years because voters in AL voted for Moore to spite McConnell. He should have kept his mouth shut publicly and talked to McCarthy privately. His involvement is being applauded by the press, never-Trumpers, and democrats, but it's only going to garner more support for MTG. She's going to play the martyr card and the divisions will just get deeper...which is good for dramacoin, but bad for almost everything else.

You think he doesn't know this?

The AL thing wasn't an isolated incident. McConnell is constantly getting the opposite of what he says/appears to want because he pisses people off and they do dumb shit like nominating Roy Moore just to spite him. I don't think it has clicked for McConnell that most people hate his face and the only reason he's still in the senate is because he's been able to outspend any primary challenges and democrats in KY haven't run a democrat like Manchin that might have a chance to beat him in the general election. I think he's fucking clueless. Even if he does stop to consider the possibility what he does is counter-productive he's surrounded by a bunch of yes men that tell him he can't be wrong. He meddled in shit that didn't concern him again, and it's going to bite him in the ass just like all the other times he meddled in shit that didn't concern him.

The tortoise beats the harebrained.

This is turtle's fall from prominence. The GQP is going to can his ass and continue to swing more towards Greene's world.
