Daft Punk broke up
1 2021-02-22 by JeffButterDogEpstein
I honestly don’t know how significant a couple of geriatric crepe eatin yankee hatin yahoos retiring is, but nevertheless... everybody’s acting like this is 9/11. Pretty much check any music sub.

A lot of people acting like they used to jam to them at raves and parties when in reality most of them listened to them on headphones so mom wouldn't bug them to turn that shit down while they played Vidya gaymes.

I fucking love Daft Punk and they will always be one of my favorite Duo's along with Tears for Fears, Disclosure etc.
I was in Daft Club as a teenager and they were one of my first CD's.

R.I.P. Daft Punk, I will keep doin' it right and bring your music to the end and beginning of time.

Absolutely based.

Daft Punks Discovery came out in February 2001. After that? Who gives a shit.
As far as I'm concerned, 9/11 was 9/11 for Daft Punk.
9 idio3 2021-02-22
Their most popular track was released in 2013... You know, the one with NILE FUCKING RODGERS on guitar.
4 Infidel6 2021-02-22
dont care. Miasma theory was popular too, but that doesn't mean it wasn't absolute rεtærd shit. Besides, the Breakwater sample on Robot rock is infinitely better.
7 idio3 2021-02-22
So "Get Lucky" was rétárd shit. Cool, cool.
I wish I was as sophisticated as you, senpai.

It's a fun jam song. Jam songs are literally made for reeeeeetards. "She's up all night to the sun, I'm up all night to get some, she's up all night for good fun, I'm up all night to get lucky." If you want better dance music look at almost any disco song and it's immediately going to have funkier grooves and more interesting melodies.
4 idio3 2021-02-22
If you're listening to electronic music for lyrical genius - you're doing it wrong. Lo-fi All-Stars have been gone for a long while.
Daft Punk is for fun, and as far as funky beats go - Get Lucky is as far away from retąrded as it gets.
4 alphetaboss 2021-02-22
Oh shit, I had forgotten about that song. Thanks for reminding me. Spent a few minutes remembering what it was like to be a misunderstood and angsty teenager. But I think we are just going to have to disagree in regards to Daft Punk, I think they're two dweeby frenchmen who have pretty horrible taste in music and try to slap a thin veneer of "art" on boring dance music.
3 idio3 2021-02-22
Look, I'm not arguing that Daft Punk is high art or some shit. If you want popular, yet artsy electronic music, you have to go back to Big Beat (Prodigy etc), though you won't find much lyrical genius (if that's what you're after) even there. "Magic people, voodoo people"x100 comes to mind 😂.
Daft Punk is a pretty soft variety of dance music - they're just far funkier than most, and have a number of really fun tracks.
5 alphetaboss 2021-02-22
I think I just have an irritation with Daft Punk themselves and how they portray themselves. It may even be with all of electronic dance music. I don't mind listening to some ridiculous feel good dance music, Daft Punk just seems to take themselves so much more seriously than their music should be taken. Like Quad City DJs are great, no one heard the 69 Boyz and thinks, oh shit now this is music, but the amount of Belmont music nerds that have told me to I need to have a Daft Punk phase is uncountable.
2 idio3 2021-02-22
Bro, they're two dudes in robot costumes. They clearly don't take themselves this seriously.
Your beef seems to be with hipster f-slurs, who are admittedly annoying as shit. It's not fair to reflect their rętarded attempts at appearing all open-minded on some funky French EDMers.
2 alphetaboss 2021-02-22
Lmao. You're probably right. I can't believe it's 2021 and I'm still complaining about hipsters.
2 idio3 2021-02-22
I didn't survive the 90s rave scene to be worried about some f-slurs in fedoras 😎😎😎
2 NormanImmanuel 2021-02-22
Yes, Discovery is the definition of Fedoracore, but it's still good music.
2 red1dragon588 2021-02-22
It’s pop music. It’s fun to listen to, just like Tiesto’s house music, but it isn’t as good or as technical as the old stuff, just like Tiesto with, say, Adagio for Strings
-1 idio3 2021-02-22
All right, champ, you go and come up with some Nile Rodgers riffs and mix them up in a way that wins universal acclaim from the entire industry. It's not as good or technical as the old stuff, so it should be a breeze for such a virtuoso as you.

I’m on Reddit you really think I have any talents?

Noooooooo my beep boop music

Ever since James Murphey came out with this song, listening to Daft Punk fan is more a fashion statement than sincere musical taste.
If ask some Brooklyn hipster if they listen to electronic music, I bet most would say "Daft Punk, of course" while wearing their posturing hallow soul on a white t-shirt sleeve, under paint-splattered acid-wash jean overalls, going to their $60k/year Jesuit art school class, carrying a $15 turkey wrap.
Why, yes, they studied abroad in Paris for a full year, why do you ask? (I didn't.)
2 missmurrr 2021-02-22
this is oddly specific and true.
7 dramasutra2020 2021-02-22
They always sucked and were overrated. Boomers and older millenials loved them because they didn't know any better
17 idio3 2021-02-22
Imagine listening to zoomer music 🤮🤮🤮

Shit, you got me there. I remember showing everyone how hot she was in high school and all the Asian boys said she was fat. Chinese people are fucking brutal.

>be french
>listen to deep house (chicago house + soulshit)
>put a bunch of filters on it
>make a bunch of pseudonyms that do the same thing
>profit
I mean they're cool but it was pretty much the same schtick for 20 years.

Any speculation on the causes?
9 JeffButterDogEpstein 2021-02-22
They made a cheesy video where they do some super gay stuff that’s supposed to be like some ending or something, so it seems like they’re just retiring.
16 wizdumb337 2021-02-22
So a normal daft punk video?

to eventually cash in on a "reunion tour" of course... same reason that any long standing duo makes a stupid "breaking up" announcement like this

Had no idea they were even still together tbh
2 JimieWhales 2021-02-22
This was that cartoon monkeys rapping band?
2 AntiLuke 2021-02-22
They can't break up, they're playing at my house.
1 JeffButterDogEpstein 2021-02-22
They put this video up titled “epilogue”, and then their publicist later confirmed they were retiring.

Random Access Memories was their worst album. It was a cash-out.
-1 aqouta 2021-02-22
Wait, daft punk was still together? I thought they put out one album that everyone and their brother sampled and then disappeared into the mists.
-4 DaySee 2021-02-22
Wait Daft punk was a band?
Wasn't it just one jerkoff in an amogus cosplay who hand-synced his own songs on a fake mix table with lasers and smoke and shit?
2 idio3 2021-02-22
deadmau5.
