Wow, that's scary, do you think they could remove an account for upvoting abusive posts or comments? I mean, I'll be very careful next time because some people on reddit use sarcasm to push their wrong thinking and it's sometimes very hard to see that. Anyway, thanks for the heads-up and I hope everyone here keep their account safe.
Do you have any idea of the crap they have to put up with day in and day out? The number of attacks they get, both from inside and outside of Reddit? The hacking attempts trying to get the site shut down? The visits from the feds asking for user details? The weight on one's mind when they feel responsible for someone dying as a result of a random post (ignoring lives that are saved from other posts)? The amount of hatred they get from external news sites for allowing supposed racist and bigoted content? It does something to one's nerve.
99.9% people of people of people wouldn't last a day before they cracked. They've been going for 2 decades and they've only just surrendered within the past 5 years or so or so. I think that deserves a round of applause.
The Red Hat Society is an international social organization that was founded in 1998 in the United States for women age 50 and beyond, but now open to women of all ages. Its main purpose is to provide women with opportunities for pleasant social interaction, both for reconnecting with old friends and making new ones.
How dare you give internet points to the wrongthink! Maybe next time you'll think hard before you silently give internet points to a post that the lily white BIPOC of AHS disagree with!
I think it is pretty clear what kind of content they want people to avoid. It's mainly the fault of morons who are so petty that they go online spew their bullshit. Why do you thing these communities get shutdown? I think it is a good think. Losers like that should be shunned IRL and online. Even this community. This is a place for drama yet people post clearly agenda post.
I don't think it is about wrong think. Like people should have absurd opinions and and should be allowed to ridicule them for it. The problem is people that have hateful opinions. That requires little thinking if any.
No it can't. People are not that stupid. Read a court docket on something like harassment, slander, or even hate speech in a country that has those laws. People use this stupid argument because most are two pathetic to have good manners and just be decent. People that spew hatred should be shunned. I digress this is a good thing.

What world have you been living in? Someone trying to point out anything about traans women in sports that isn't absolute acceptance gets immediately labeled as a bigot and hateful. Plenty of scholars and journalists (like Glenn Greenwald and Matt Taibbi) have been thrown under the hate bus because they didn't toe the line on certain subjects.
I'm not denying the existence of hateful behavior. I'm saying that a lot more than just hateful shit would get swept under that umbrella if such absolutism were implemented in the US.
I can't speak on the journalists but your initial point yeah that would be perfectly fine. But some asshole promoting violence intolerance is not.
See the problem here is you want to lump in degenerates with people that have an intelligent opinion on something, something that says hey we should look at this. Conversation like that is fine. Being an asshole for the sake of one is not
the problem here is you want to lump in degenerates with people that have an intelligent opinion on something, something that says hey we should look at this.
No, I'm saying that people acting in bad faith or just politically aggressive lump them together to silence opinions they do not like.
Makes no sense. If you want to waste your time pretending to be the other side so you get an IP ban go ahead. Now it's shifting to bad faith this or that. Like how would that even happen? Like look at trump morons, plenty of people on both sides have shunned them, but these morons stick together. No one who wants decency will want to rub shoulders with one that does not. Makes no sense. It also goes against the principle of having discussion if people engage you in bad faith. Most people that I'm thinking of are exactly like this. Their beliefs are set in stone and they just want to spew their toxic rhetoric.
If they did then they deserve a ban,. Better example is the Donald. People brigading, discussing violence, ect. There other shit to. I think we can agree we can discuss Ideas but there is some dumb shit people do on here. These are the people to shun. Zero value
I never disagreed with you that there were genuine shitheads. My point was that the standards for hate speech are very subjective. In a German legal system you'd have professional judges determining the basis of legal accusations, but within the sphere of social media you have a bunch of low-paid or unpaid people having to exercise precise legalistic judgement on the basis of a vague ToS.
All right dude now where running around in circles. Generally speech laws are broad because itis subjective. Those subs got banned because they clearly where a threat to society and a business threat to read. And you have point to courts, judges suck, but that is a good system because other places you dont even get a shot. Anywyas agree to disagree goodnight.
As someone that followed GGs career for decades his fall from grace has been delicious, especially since the Edward Snowden thing should've absolutely buried him though most of the media bought his bullshit and are completely illiterate in NetSec issues and didn't even follow up with his supposed "real evidence he totally had but you haven't seen it it lives in Canada." When did Snowden's revelation become a bad thing? I think he was a bit of a tool b/c he basically just did a smash-and-grab of a bunch of data and then fucked off to Russia, but he finally dragged the NSA'a shit into the public spotlight.
Oh man this story is great but in NetSec circles he was immediately panned because experts were well aware of the failures of the Total Information Awareness programme of the early 2000s... But his twist was that he had proof that the alphabet soup agencies essentially had back door access to RSA encryption which you know freaked a lot of NetSec professionals because holy fuck that'd literally ruin the internet.
Once the dust settled they found the two big programmes that Snowden "exposed" were actually pretty well known and completely legal, albeit not widely known by their internal names. PRISM for example was simply a standardization processes for tech companies to comply with lawful court orders. Once he and GG were confronted about this they changed their story that what they produced was only a sample and they promised to publish the super serious and super evidence of malfeasance.

This is a really good question. However my perspective is different to begin with hate is not an emotion anger is. Hate is the extreme, where emotion becomes a state of mind. Hate is irrational. So yes I would get rid of hate.
I tend to think of constant, lingering anger as hatred or bitterness, something which everyone is guilty of, even towards their closest friends/family sometimes.
Yes you are correct. Perhaps bitterness is the extreme of jealousy. Jealousy is also useful to us.
However. I have to be honest I come here for drama, not deep convo's. I'm sorry friend but I don't want to continue this further.
So I'll say this time plays a role I agree. You can act on your anger immediately, or it can come later after learning something or failing to act. There is a point though where the anger is irrational. You've heard the term rent free in your head. That is the point. Good convo. Goodnight dude.
