It's not even that. Wokie sites do okay, because they started as purely and explicitly non-ideological. Eventually, after capturing the userbase, they did start cutting off "problematic" parts, thus maintaining centroids and whatnot who just want to grill and could not give two fucks.
Any site that starts out specifically as the opposition to an established social network will only ever gain traction among the discontents. Which is necessarily going to be a rather insular community.

I love how the largest examples of attempted cancels can be conservative driven and they've somehow convinced themselves it's "the left."
They legit had a meltdown and tried to get a black guy fired from the NFL for kneeling, something the president himself got involved in.
They then tried to boycott and cancel nike for supporting him, and as far as I know the only real victim of the entire event was a sports store owner that thought he could run a sports store with no Nike:
