Lot od drama happening in soccer world.

Currently you have be in top positions in your domestic league to qualify into Champions League (CL), which is played between teams across Europe.

To many people, later stages of CL have the highest level of soccer that is played across the world.

Now top clubs in Europe want to form a separate closed league to keep earning huge money so that dont lose out on that money if they cant qualify.

Supporters, understandably dont want a closed league because there is no promotion or relegation and it wont hold the charm anymore. However, football authorities or UEFA or FIFA, want this to happen because they will lose their authority to control the game so they have come out with a statement, they will ban any players that will playing in this closed league and is preparing a multibillion lawsuit against these clubs.

This drama can be found in the soccer sub. All the main posts there relates to this incident.

This might be the biggest drama in sports history - not even exaggerating. From the joint statement by the by UEFA, the English Football Association, the Premier League, RFEF, LaLiga, FIGC and Serie A:

As previously announced by FIFA and the six Confederations, the clubs concerned will be banned from playing in any other competition at domestic, European or world level, and their players could be denied the opportunity to represent their national teams.

Dramacoin is going to the moon. This is amazing. Now we get to see "muh meritocracy" from the very same people who were going on about it's evils nary a day ago.

"biggest drama in sports history.".

Yeah but soccer is still stoopid

No u

i posted this earlier with links to the best cope including from actual national governments and autojannie killed it for linking to subreddits (no subs were linked)

I’m unironically seething

it's worse than the status quo, but if they delete FIFA I will personally donate money to Perez.

What is a closed league?

basically a sports league, as we have them in the colonies

in european soccer leagues they have a bunch of tiered leagues that goes all the way down to a league consisting of basically you and your drunk friends. there's a system of promotion and relegation where if you come in last or first you get promoted up a league or down a league. and there's no draft or college system, and there's no salary cap so its very pay to play up at the top of the top end.

so like, the browns would have been kicked out of the nfl ages ago in this system and playing in some shittier league.

there is an invitational tournament at the end of every season where the winners of the top leagues in europe play in an all-europe league, that's what champions is. it's performance based though, not just automatically the richest team goes.

this is all the richest teams in europe just deciding to form the "nfl" on top of all that.

Don't you have relegation in America? What happens to all the shit teams at the end of the season?

Oh they play out the rest of the schedule. Going through the motions in a series of meaningless games, contested in lifeless, half-empty stadiums. And everyone's pretty much fine with that. Isn't that right Coach Beard?

Yeah, it's dumb.

I respect the quoted sentiment but also alcoholism is a proud tradition in Cleveland, Detroit, and elsewhere. We would be depriving them of their culture by not supporting their participation through 17 18? 19? weeks.

they could just be drinking to some other, better team. one from detroit/cleveland etc, even. they'd just be a phoenix team or whatever

I'll have you know

...go on

Arizona is also bad at sports.

oh no it's a metaphorical term. it refers to when a team fails financially, is demoted significantly, or leaves town and a new one takes its place among local fanbase's hearts. ie a rising phoenix. there's a wiki page on them i suspect i cannot link to.

alternatively the fans can leave the hypothetical browns for another upstart team before the browns have actually failed financially or left or been relegated, if the writing is on the wall and there is blood in the water. this motivates the browns to...try to retain fans, which is good for the fans.

it's not about actual arizona sports teams, they're terrible. the falcons are knock-off philidelphia eagles, that's like knocking off a hyundai

Is Detroit that bad? The Lions are really the only bad team there. The Tigers have a fantastic history, as do the Pistons. Plus the Red Wings are an absolutely legendary club in the hockey world, of course. I mean, yeah, it is Detroit, but they have had some pretty fantastic sports moments in their history, unlike Cleveland who basically owe their most recent championship to the mercy of the Lebron.

I do not watch snoozeball.

Anything that pisses off FIFA I support 100%

I truly hope the entire FIFA structure gets blown up. The morons in arrrsoccer screeching about this are complaining about money and capitalism and corruption LIKE THAT ISN'T UEFA AND FIFA'S LITERAL GODDAM MO.
