My point is the jury is currently not permitted to watch news coverage on the case. Let’s not pretend an average burgerite could correctly tell what what state Waters represents, if I could get a mistrial by having MJT yell about how the Democrats will rape your children if you vote guilty criminal defense would be a lot more appealing to me
You don't have to watch news coverage on the case to know about riots in the city or hear about the woman spurring them on with threats. You don't have to care about the case at all to know that someone shot at National Guard after she said they need to step it up.
The judge should have had them sequestered a while ago. But that jury had been thoroughly intimidated before jury selection even happened so it's whatever.
Chauvin would be likely to win on appeal down the line, but that does me no good. I need at least a hung jury now if the riots are going to continue. Unfortunately, the defense didn't do a good job of jury selection and this could all go tits up.
From hearing lawyers talk about watching the trial:
3rd degree is the "best" outcome (not from drama angle) - it is what actually happened.
2nd degree manslaughter would be too light - may prompt some peaceful protesting.
2nd degree murder would be too strong - would likely prompt reversal on appeal. How the city takes it? Who knows. Would be real reverse OJ.
The jury was sequestered a while ago, unsure what you mean. The rightoid claim about not granting a change of venue being a source of easy appeal win is something presented by someone who does not understand how appeals and the scope of review actually works. Shouldn't be a shock there, we aren't too far removed from the electoral Lolsuits.
If any juror has read even a headline about the trial through their sequestration they should be replaced with their alternates as required.

They've been issuing public threats throughout this whole affair.
