caffeine anoraks of pirate flag/coffee have a ridiculous argument about linguistics, Edo-period Japanese hookers, and ridiculously overpriced name-brand berry cultivars

Haven't been to that sub in many years but it looks like nothing's changed.

I like coffee but I fucking hate coffee people

coffee people

Coffee has legit become a subculture. Won't be long before we see unironic people of coffee.

welcome to 1990

seriously did you guys never see frasier?

I once made someone some Folgers but told them it was a local blend. They said they didn't like it, but it was "rich" and "dark" or whatever other buzzwords I cant remember, making it sound like a yuppie ass granola San Fran niche brew shit

I didnt even really mean to like mislead them, all I had was Folgers instant coffee and I knew I'd get bullied if I said it was Folgers, so I lied.

Anyways point of this story is to call your mom or dad today!

i still want to know what kinda casios you have

Few of the cheap 50 to 80 dollar ones I bought in college like a decade tbh. Ones a sport watch, other is kinda fancy stainless steel clasp that I used to wear cuz it was "classy". Used to have a nice Timex? Or shitty watch that was like 20 bucks that I wore to dates and stuff in college before it broke. taht watch has seen some action buddy XD!

I made this reddit account like a lil bitch that was like "okay new account, what name... hmm.. look down, wrist has watch. hur dur haha new reddit name casio...uhh..rolex. cool neato lets shitpost"

other is kinda fancy stainless steel clasp

oh was it kinda like this? i'm really fond of that design. i'm not really into watches per se but i been a big fan of their shit since the 90s when it was all i could afford. they're cheap but they have some really nice and innovative designs. g-shock was a game-changer, and their keyboards are legendary now

that is a pretty solid way to come up with a username, really

Yep! I like it, but feel it looks tacky sometimes so I wear my black plastic sportswatch most of the time.

hah, what a coincidence, i'm wearing one of those right now.

you could get one of their classic calculator watches if you really wanted to dress to impress. or like marty mcfly i guess. they come in a variety of styles now.

Dude I was gonna link you some amazon images of some fucking whack ass watches that I can only envision the most gruesome of geeky nerd that'd wear it for a few months as a freshman in college

shit like https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07J47CRW8?pf_rd_r=79Q3DZ70PPCPXN5A5T6D

lmao

oof, those are...busy. i have a pretty minimalist mindset i think, s'why i like that first silver one.

my ma got me one of these for x-mas, and i like the simpleness and color and invulnerability but ticking watches really get on my nerves sometimes.

i do like those contrasting features for some reason. the LED mixed with the gold old-timey parts reminds me of those nixie tube watches that are becoming more popular

Have you seen they have a g shock smartwatch coming out, using wearOS?;

https://www.techradar.com/news/casios-latest-g-shock-smartwatch-is-smart-sporty-and-super-expensive

I don't even wear watches, but I might have to get one of these.

oh hell yeah those look fantastic

they aren't quite my style yet(i clash with that kind of round sportswatches) but i'm positive there will be new designs coming soon

they aren't quite my style yet(i clash with that kind of round sportswatches)

Nothing will ever top this for style

exactly my man, hell yeah

i wear this most days but i used to have one of those. i miss it.

coffee people

what like colombians? that can't be a thing come on

The tea subreddit is much nicer, because tea drinkers are fundamentally better people than coffee addicts.

Nooooooooo your grinder cost less than 300 dollars and you didn't filter and remineralize your water

This orientalist angle is problematic in an era where people are aiming to decolonize by empowering small scale coffee producers.

good grief

I think 3rd wave coffee is helping...

What the...fuck? is coffee like ska or feminism now?

3rd wave coffee is when you pretend to care about the environmental and labor issues around coffee production but buy plastic bottles of distilled water and remineralize it with single-use plastic packs of epsom salt and sodium bicarbonate when you want to make a cup

remineralize it with single-use plastic packs of epsom salt and sodium bicarbonate when you want to make a cup

do they really do that

Yep, this product is widely touted on that sub. The smarter consumers recognize that even their favorite roasters and cafes just use filtered municipal water and do that, and the real hardcore nerds are savvy enough to just buy baking soda, epsom salt, and a cooler for bulk distilled water, but plebbitors and americans are fat and lazy and prioritize convenience above all else, even when participating in pricey, nerdy, ultra-niche hobbies. I started getting more interested in coffee when the 'rona lockdowns started last year, but the people on that sub disgusted me and I found myself perfectly content with my aeropress, inexpensive ish Chinese grinder, and cheap Happy Mug beans. Now I just occasionally hate-read it.

That said, there is a relatively interesting blog about looking up various water chemistry reports and recreating the city water for cities with notable coffee cultures. I'd never do that, it's way too much work, but that level of geekery doesn't actually bug me if people aren't r-slurred, smug, and wasteful about it. I used to work in brewing and you see very similar efforts in beermaking all the time. It's hard to make a truly excellent old world lager without at least a little bit of water softening.

Starting your day right shouldn't be this difficult

Literally isn't, but thank you marketer man.
