When I was at MEPS there was this dude joining the Navy who was super hyped about all the cool shit he was doing. Then some former Navy guy who was reenlisting in the Army said something like "In the Navy, you deploy to Guam and spend eight months living in a ship. Then you go back to port... and you still live on the ship."
Guy looked like he was going to blow his brains out lmao.
Idk, I knew the brother of a guy who is/was a submariner in the early 2000's every 3 years they spent 6 months docked in Nouméa (French Caledonia) with high speed internet broadband, he was pretty happy, also everytime get paid 3x times the normal salary since it was considered a "mission" abroad
Outside of ND, SO, SB, EOD, SARC, AIRR, SeaBees and a few specific details for other rates, life in the Navy is absolutely abysmal. The only people that enjoy it outside of the above are too dumb to know any better.
For the curious HPCON is heath protection condition levels, ranging from Normal to Delta. With different rules at each level.
When in Charlie you can only go to work, home and making essential stops for groceries and take out food. In Bravo you can go and eat inside of a restaurant as long as covid mitigations are followed, like masks and a table limit.
The navy is applying different restrictions across the force and it's causing for some grumpy gooses.
The guys (yte mails) i talk to are keeping their heads down and counting the days. If i bring up re-enlistment they all laugh. Ive never witnessed this before in my adult life.
Why didn't the Navy cut a deal with port cities to zone a district specifically for Navies to have fun? Yeah, they'd still be caged in, but it beats staying on the ship.
Send all the instathots to the Navies. God knows they probably got a lot saved up, if the wives didn't get it first.
I have no idea. In the port of Dubai they have a specific pier called the sand box. It's got a small navy exchange, large seating area, a few food ships all specifically for US ships.
The problem is breaking the bubble, all the staff manning the sandbox would need to be in isolation and whatnot and if I was in charge I wouldn't trust that. They still could have done beer on the pier. Send the beer over during am unrep and having ships force selling the beer.
Are the officers subject to these restrict, are area "subject" to these restrictions? If I was enlisted navy right now, with all the time in the world on my hands, I'd just stalk anyone O-3 or higher. You know those fucking weasels are out doing whatever the fuck they want.
wait... one of my best friends is active duty navy (submarine goon) and I'm picking him up from the new orleans airport in 3 hours...? I'm not even joking. he's about to have 10 days leave
Make sure he sucks you off real good on the way home.
If he's on leave he does not have to follow hpcon restrictions because he'll have to quarantine when he returns to his boat. Or I could be wrong, I'm just a contractor.
Some more firsthand knowledge here for this one, off the high ropes for more juicy drama: an active aircraft squadron commander, an O-5, published an article in our professional journal (yes we have one of those) calling for restrictions to be lessened and this Facebook post is the RESPONSE to that. And huge amounts of the Navy are now fully vaccinated as well.
Edit for further salt, the Pentagon has been at HPCON B+ for a while.....
Developing, SECDEF put out a memo essentially saying “yo why are y’all all still at Charlie?” Also, no higher than HPCON B for vaccinated Sailors. So anticipate changes soon

I was never very far from a beach once I transferred to submarines.

i feel like morale right now across all branches is super low.

I was on a ship deployed to the gulf for a couple weeks last fall for a tech assist and it felt like a funeral.
Basically if they weren't on watch they were taking a melatonin and sleeping pill cocktail trying to sleep through deployment.
At least now they're letting sailors off the ship and allowing them to get hammered on the pier in a special bubble zone.

Yeah they're all done on the ship, navy did a really bad job here.

Oh good it's not like there's any near-peer competitors we need the Navy for
9 -Kite-Man- 2021-04-30
i wouldn't call the coast guard neer-peers
or actually go do that, preferably to a bunch of sailors. that could be pretty funny
('neer' wasn't deliberate but fuck you i'm keeping it)

They're not gonna actually leave the govt job program

You’ve never witnessed disgruntled guys waiting to EAS?
3 Corporal-Hicks 2021-04-30
not at this level before

That sounds really bleak. How can we count on them fighting the CCP, if we can't even make sure they can get some R&R in between?
11 Iowa_Hawkeye 2021-04-30
We can't.

You're right, this sounds like a disaster waiting to happen.
This is really fucked up for Navy. At least other branches get to screw around with local women.
They really should bring it to the press, and hopefully let it blow up.

Good. More time to study for your petty officer test.

Fools need to be getting their ESWS qual anyway instead of giving each other dutch rudders in their racks when they're not on watch.

I would like to think SECDEF read my arrr drama post and then wrote this memo
