Black dogs get adopted fairly normally. The black cat is true, but exaggerated. The biggest is that everyone wants a puppy/kitten, so there's a lot of good older dogs and cats (it's worse with cats in my experience). It's reasonable to not want a dog that's been in and out of shelters (a huge sign that the dog has problems), but a lot of older dogs and cats in shelters are great pets.

Yeah, this isn’t a thing at all. Black cats apparently, but I suspect that is more due to low cat adoption rates generally. Shelters just say whatever, as seen here.

I have a black lab and I was told once by a vet that people don't adopt all-black dogs as much as other colors of dogs.

I think it's because they don't photograph well tbh. any pic of my dog that isn't in direct sunlight, it just looks like the silhouette of a dog lol. kinda like dogs that are pitt-mix: pitt nuts don't want them because they aren't pure, and everyone else doesn't want them because they're afraid they may snap and gnaw on the baby

There was a chapter in Erik Kessels’s book “Fail It!” about a family trying desperately to photograph their black dog for years and it was adorable. It looked like a black hole with eyes until they over exposed the photo so much everything was white but the dog
