Black dogs get adopted fairly normally. The black cat is true, but exaggerated. The biggest is that everyone wants a puppy/kitten, so there's a lot of good older dogs and cats (it's worse with cats in my experience). It's reasonable to not want a dog that's been in and out of shelters (a huge sign that the dog has problems), but a lot of older dogs and cats in shelters are great pets.
This was in my friend's NextDoor and I've never heard of black dogs not getting adopted. All three of us have all-black dogs, and we thought this was funny. I guess my dog now has victim points.
Yeah, this isn’t a thing at all. Black cats apparently, but I suspect that is more due to low cat adoption rates generally. Shelters just say whatever, as seen here.
I have never in my life heard of black dogs being unadopted
I have a black lab and I was told once by a vet that people don't adopt all-black dogs as much as other colors of dogs.
I think it's because they don't photograph well tbh. any pic of my dog that isn't in direct sunlight, it just looks like the silhouette of a dog lol. kinda like dogs that are pitt-mix: pitt nuts don't want them because they aren't pure, and everyone else doesn't want them because they're afraid they may snap and gnaw on the baby
Black dog syndrome or big black dog syndrome is a phenomenon in which black dogs are passed over for adoption in favor of lighter-colored animals. Animal shelters often use the term BBD, or big black dog, to describe the type of larger dark-colored mixed-breed said to be typically passed over by adopters.
There was a chapter in Erik Kessels’s book “Fail It!” about a family trying desperately to photograph their black dog for years and it was adorable. It looked like a black hole with eyes until they over exposed the photo so much everything was white but the dog
Really? It's an app for people to share stuff with neighbors, but it's really a place for people to hate on their neighbors and you realize you're surrounded by crazy people.

Or just that we can't see them as well in day to day living as well.

It gets talked about a lot in the local greyhound community by me. No idea if there are actual stats to back it up.

Greyhounds are supposed to be grey. It's in the name. If your greyhounds black, it's not a greyhound

But that doesn’t look like a pit. It’s look like a lab which is wh-ter than italians.

Instead of giving toddlers some kisses, labs will devour your pantry if you don't have it secured well.

they don't mean breed, they just mean color

I know. My joke wasn’t funny and I’m r-tarded, but hopefully not that r-tarded

You sure this is not bait?
8 Lysis10 2021-05-14
lol it could be, but considering the people I've seen in my NextDoor and this one is one town over, I'm 85% sure she's serious.

I've never heard of NextDoor. Is that like Second Life?

It's like YikYak but for stay at home moms, except for everyone has their name tied to their account

I unironically hate white dogs, with their gross pink skin around the eyes.

Obvious bait😴

No way I’m letting that dog near my daughter.
1 I_Shah 2021-05-14
For the dog’s own good I presume

...but only for the black dogs. Those cream colored ones can get the prick for all i care, no matter what color they bleed.
