Ok - so this scenario happened to me and my kids. Middle of the night, some guy starts trying to kick down our back door. I can hear he’s high or crazy or something because he’s barking and howling like a madman. Called the cops, door held, he was still doing it when they arrived
So, cops did stop that in-progress crime, and I don’t want to think what would’ve happened if he got in. When the cop came he assaulted the cop, they called an ambulance for him, he assaulted an EMT. But - he wasn’t shot and killed, so he know from that he was white.
Furthermore - they decided not to file charges, since he was a “good kid who had a bad trip”. I mean - if that was a black kid, he’d be dead or facing a couple decades in prison. Anyway - cops do sometimes stop crimes, but that is a minority of the time.
And this was a privileged white kid, so not sure what the root cause would’ve been. I favor a ‘near’ abolition of police- a small force to respond to things in progress, other forces, detectives, social workers, for other issues, and a major investment in social programs.
As thrilling as that story was why type it when you can say "I have a serious case of mayo guilt and thank you for saving me police".

“We need to teach men to not rape” used to be an extremist, misandrist position used to demonise men for a small part of the population. Now it’s weird to see this used as basically a misogynistic argument for letting rapists run free, it went from “all men are potential rapists” to “rapists aren’t actually that bad, guys, we need to abolish police and then they’ll behave”. In my opinion as a pretty feminist guy I think preventing rapes would be as easy as giving every woman a gun at the age of eighteen. I think most women would use them responsibly

Let's assume you're right. That still means you sacrifice the victims of violent crimes committed by the gals that wouldn't have happened if they weren't given a gun, for the hypothetical benefit of less rape on girls. x amounts of headlines of a gal that shot some engineer because "he was raping me with his eyes" instead of y amount of headlines with "Dude rapes woman, gets jailed" (and potentially z amount of headlines saying "I didn't have a gun, so I stabbed his eyes with my fingers lol"). I consider this thought that "rape can be prevented by physical strength" to be misleading. I mentioned in a reply below that any woman who isn't paralysed from neck down can basically stab someones eyes. Being raped is mostly headgame, which also explains why "men can't get raped" is complete nonsense. Victims of rapists, apart from those drugged, tend to be tender and timid and unwilling to hurt others as far as I can tell. I'll give you that - placing a weapon in the hands of people might discourage some idiots from trying to rape them.

I think most crime stems from mental illness psychopathic and sociopathic tendencies.
Obviously there's a myriad of crimes committed everyday by pretty much everyone because we live in a complex world with many laws.
But most of the heinous crimes are committed by people with certain predispositions and I doubt there's any way to really ever change that short of possibly customizing fetuses and plucking out bad genes.
