Funny story. So not many people know this but the Titanic was not just a cruise ship, it was also carrying cargo to a few ports. The biggest part of the cargo was going to be, what at the time was, the single largest shipment of mayonnaise ever moved by one vehicle. It was destined for Mexico, after the ship completed it's passenger cruise. Well we all know what happened: the Titanic hit an iceberg and sank, taking the world record shipment with it.

This had a devastating affect on Mexican mayonnaise stocks, since it was the annual total imported mayonnaise. There were no other shipments scheduled for the year since the Titanic was supposed to cover it all. Mexicans were despondent. It's was such a culinary tragedy that the government of Mexico declared the date that the shipment was to arrive a national holiday. They called it Cinco de Mayo

None of the participants in that unethical study were injected with syphilis. They had a control group with non-spyhilis patients and then lured in syphilis infected patients with the promise of being treated. Instead of treating them, they used placebo treatments in order to study the long term affects of untreated syphilis. Still unquestionably ethicality wrong, but less fucked than injecting healthy people with syphilis. Lots of people who only learned about this from bird app don't actually know what happened
