I've volunteered to clean up parks a few times and what actually happens is people come up to you and ask how to get involved...occasionally they just start picking junk up with you right there on the spot without even signing up to be a volunteer. Being outside, getting fresh air, it's fun and doesn't feel like work. Deleting people on Reddit for $0 is more like being a prom chaperone checking wallets for fake IDs even though you're visibly drunk yourself and making all the girls and twinks uncomfortable.
I choose to erase my memory of the last two sentences and believe that this individual went outside to a real park and got himself some great hobbies and a kickass friendship. I don't care how many times I have to slam my head into the wall to achieve it
