I'm honestly blown away a guy that called for defunding the schools and is also a cop won a democratic primary in nyc.

Literally everyone involved in NYC’s mayoral race this year, democrat and republican, have been exceptionally r-slurred. Something in the water up there.

The garbage lady wasn't r-slurred. She just had zero charisma.

Mild seriouspost here but I find it pretty shocking too. You can't call any of these candidates "moderate" (compared to the national average) but this guy took on all the trendy parts of the Democratic party (teachers unions, anti-cops, etc) and won. Biden did the same in the Democratic primary. He wasn't a "centrist" compared to the general population but compared to the other clowns wanting Medicare for All and unlimited spending he was relatively moderate.

Even Trump in 2016 was pretty moderate. I was watching some of his debate one-liners and their context was pretty weird. He was bringing up Laurence Tribe and a bunch of liberal professors, praising NYC as a great city, saying he "thinks" he is a conservative, praising Planned Parenthood, and sounding pretty liberal on healthcare. And on the campaign trail, he criticized Confederate statues and train bathroom laws, promised not to defund Medicare and Social Security, seemed liberal on trade, etc.

You could see Cruz thinking "How am I losing to this guy?" And of course, Romney in 2012 and McCain in 2008 are basically the definition of flip-floppers "moderate". Pretty interesting stuff when you think about it.

TLDR; Obviously the shit we see on media, colleges, and social media doesn't reflect the opinions of the general population. People, in general, can be pretty "moderate" but not bipartisan.

I don't see why you or anyone else would be surprised.

NYC was always shit, but in the past few years it's turned into even more of a fucking madhouse. People want the rampant increase in crime to stop, and they're willing to stop pandering to trains in order to do it.

At the end of the day, normies don't like being mugged. Not understanding that was the fatal flaw in all the other candidates' strategies.

A little ironic now isn't it

Makes sense. The teachers union forced online teaching and they dropped charges against all the rioters like three days before the election.

The crime has been getting out of control, and even the most lib-slurred normies are sick of it by now. That's all it really comes down to, they just want the madness to stop and this was the only dude who offered to stop it.

The pendulum swings

Not necessarily, people just want the crime to be dealt with first and foremost and without mercy. Everything else comes after that.

AndrewYang should send a little Feng Shui to the other candidates 🧧.

I can always count on Black people for the best bantz against an Asian.

Urban Financial Freedom Fighter

A what?

John is/was a financial services executive at some of the top financial firms. What that means exactly who knows.

I know his financial stuff as mayoral candidate, he’s brought up like one decent point for regular people in NYC about IDNYC which 700kish people have in NY as their ID as a lot people don’t drive so they got that instead. But a lot of the big banks don’t allow it be used as a single form of ID when opening accounts and such, such he was promoting building more credit union type banks which are usually good for everyday people for small stuff Which isn’t a horrible idea if there’s enough of them but not being able to use a big bank regular account definitely limits your bank access depending on your usual schedule.

As far as his other policies it’s pretty Republican as he’s a Republican and also beholden to big financial firms.

A person of tent with some financial work experience.

Hahahahaha, you're in college and you still spend your time like this! This internet troll shit is for lonely 14 year olds, not adults.

The rest of your life is going to be lonely and boring if this is what you do with your time during what should be your most exciting years.

Before you know it, college will be over and you'll have no ability to make new friends because you don't have anything interesting to talk about or any way to meet new people. If you're not able to make friends now when it's literally the easiest it will ever be, there's no way you're going to swing it when you're even older.

Heres an article if you want to know more about what’s going on in this election and the reason why a candidate might do that. Although Yang lost. His ideas for public schools and colleges aren’t great. Also UBI and other services, but his idea shutting down actual services and doing just UBI isn’t as popular as the latter.
