Dude look up segregation in American military bases and the reaction from the Europeans. There was one base in England that mutinied because the local pub accepted black soldiers and when the brass went in asking for it to be segregated the pub put up a “only black soldiers allowed”.

Eh European racism is different than American racism. Pretty much every major country colonised places on different continents and treated their colonies poorly. Europeans in general were polite to your face but racist behind your back. As an example, Churchill called India "our great allies" in public while famously referring to them as "savages" in private.

Coming to think of it, American conservatives have traditionally been very similar. Reagan was all "class and dignity" while dog-whistling about welfare queens and calling black people monkeys in private. Out and out racism in general was considered "low-class" even in the South, and people usually revealed their bigotry only in private. Obviously open racists did exist, but they were mostly ignored and not covered in detail by the media.

Nowadays, racism(and similar things) is obviously more visible. Part of it is changing social attitudes. For example, people barely knew about transgenders in the 20th century and not even the biggest liberals were trying to include them in sports. Now, social "initiatives" get shoved down our throats every day, There didn't need to be backlash in 1950 because nobody was trying to do r-slurred shit like that.
