It’s not a new concept. Escape From New York and The Warriors were both created during a time when New York City was broke, violent, and dirty. Subway cars were so bad people created their own community service (gangs) to patrol for muggers because the cops couldn’t do it. Taxi Driver, the prequel to The Joker, gave a more realistic reflection of NYC back then too and I probably should have used this movie example first because it’s more well known but I’m not going to edit this comment so you get what you get.
I just don’t like that these movies are always “about” something specific and contemporary
If you want to make a movie about masculinity as it pertains to society, go for it, but making it about modern /fit/ culture isn’t clever. It takes zero skill to make a movie that just points at something currently happening and saying “that’s bad”
Yeah it’s also like, is masculinity really the most cult-like thing around? Like this is the equivalent of if rightoids made a movie about a transitioning cult, it’s partisan writers proving they live in an insular world where the most important thing to them is that people they disagree with the lifestyle of exist
Why cast Eisenberg? Get Chase Hooper up in this bitch. They're practically identical, but one fights in a cage for money and the other is an actor that doesn't look quite as aspirational in their body building dreams.

They probably could have named this movie "Uber Driver" and it would be about as subtle.

In California, mostly all uber drivers are not younger white guys.

Yeah, Death Wish was basically the same thing. There’s barely even a story there, just Charles Bronson walking around New York shooting dudes.

Let me guess the weightlifter is the Uber driver’s alternate personality and the girl is a crazy drug addict that fucks with the Uber driver
How original
