That guy's arrest actually had nothing to do with facial recognition software. It's not even possible to positively identify someone from their eyes alone using software.

The moron did a close-up interview with a camera the night before at a hotel, gave out his name and everything. Some twittercels found it and used it to identify him.
It was about as easy to find him as it was to find Michael Reinoehl, who did an interview with bloomberg about how he got shot while helping a bunch of black teens beat the crap out of a man who he could only assume was a white supremacist based on how he was being treated.
He gave out his name and place of work, turns out there's really only one Michael who lives in portland who works as a professional snowboarder.
