Naruto sucked pretty quickly because every arc was about who had the strongest eyeballs. The story was more or less about an eyeball arms race.

Naruto peaked with Rock Lee's fight against Gaara and the last good fight was Zabuza (so, very early on)

I think the peak fight was Zabuza, but the best story beat was Shikamaru surrendering but still getting promoted. Anything after the timeskip was shit.

Honestly Id vote for either the rock lee vs gaara or zabuza fight, both are good, I think I honestly gave up not long after that

Zabuza was the best fight. I just think the Shikamaru thing was a great "the strongest doesn't always win, use tactics point and don't feel bad about retreating." It was nice to not have a "the strongest always wins and the MC always has an butt pull to win"
