On my first rewatch and just got to episode with Zero Two's flashback.
Why don't they make more like it. 
The soundtrack, the pacing. End was r-slurred but that's par for course for gaynime anyway.

Yeah it'd have been so much better if they didn't introduce alien nonsense just have them take on Papa and rest like they were building up to, win and liberate human soyciety while making peace with the klaxosaurs.
Most unnecessary twist.
But it is what it is. The Zero Two flashback still remains peak romcom anime kino at par with second half of Kimi No Na Wa.
