On my first rewatch and just got to episode with Zero Two's flashback.
Why don't they make more like it. 
The soundtrack, the pacing. End was r-slurred but that's par for course for gaynime anyway.

there is no explenation ever given for the pose , But it is explained that they need two pilots of the opposite s*x with reproductive organs to be in sync to pilot the robot. lol. ( Most people in the series are sterile immortal people called Adults)
