4,000-ish years ago, it was standard for Babylonian kings to offer prayers / dedications to their patron deities / the deities they were constructing a temple for, by having the clay bricks stamped with a votive inscription. Every brick.

Alexander the Great, when he commanded a temple to his patron deities (Zeus / Herakles) be built on the site of the (then-2,000-year-old) Babylonian temple, had his priests stamp the bricks they used with their own votive dedications.

The original deity to which the original temple was dedicated?
