Daily Bard Digest 2024-09-11

Live feed of the best moderator on the internet, straight into your veins.

Here's todays official post from the BARDCHIVE:

04/06/16 12:16:41 with a score of -16: https://old.reddit.com/r/announcements/comments/4dmnn6/new_and_improved_block_user_feature_in_your_inbox/d1scrof/?context=8

Can this be implemented / has this been implemented in such a fashion that we can arbitrarily add usernames without having to have a message in the inbox?

I would love to be able to receive a list of The Usual Suspects from people I trust, and drop the usernames into the /dev/null route list, if you get the idea, there.

Hi. You may or may not be aware, but Reddit used to host the single largest White Identity Extremism forum on the Internet, the single largest Holocaust denial forum on the Internet, the single largest Anti-Government / Anti-Authority Violent Extremism forum on the Internet, and thousands of hatred-based groups. It also still hosts groups dedicated to targeted harassment based on identity or vulnerability, hiding behind many different bad faith claims of legitimacy.

Groups which wanted (and still want) nothing to do with those bigoted & violent groups have every right to take reasonable steps to preserve their goodwill, their intangible reputation.

unsolicited messages banning them

User accounts which have never participated in a given community never receive a ban message from that community in their inbox. This change was made almost a decade ago to address large scale abuse by a group setting up offensively named & themed subreddits & then banning, unbanning, rebanning, (lather rinse repeat) user accounts from those subreddits, exploiting the fact that moderator communications are not blockable. Anyone who claims to have received a ban message from a subreddit without first participating in that subreddit has either willfully lied or has forgotten that they participated.

This behaviour is particularly disrupting and upsetting to new users

People who choose to associate with bigots, extremists, harassers, and crooks are often of the opinion that they should not be subjected to any social consequences for their choices.
