Pratchett's Moist von Lipwig
A rascal, a conman, a scoundrel, a crook, a criminal, a thief, a swindler, an unthinking, unfeeling, addicted to the game grifter, nevertheless reformed and making amends, and tapdancing down the avalanche.
Possibly his most realistic character.
Ms. Penny Oaken (@skywitches.net):
Jesse Pinkman. The Everyman Teenage Dirtbag to Desperate Adult story arc and Aaron Paul's acting are incredible. I would change one part ("Refrigerator" trope) of his story, but like, he is the son Walt adopted, and exploited. Tragedy's exemplar.
(Walter White will not appear on this list)
Ms. Penny Oaken (@skywitches.net):
Robin Williams' Chris Nielsen in What Dreams May Come.
This film is a melancholic horror, to me — an allegory for loved ones that have fallen into addiction, illness, conspiracy theory rabbit holes. Williams makes me believe that holding open a door out of a personal heck can succeed.
Ms. Penny Oaken (@skywitches.net):
The Sense8 Cluster. Among other things, the cluster is an overt allegory for DI, the Wachowski sisters & JMS did something novel & touching, made me cry & laugh, hope, and sing. Smudging the boundaries between characters, settings, motives, etc - also a celebration of queer identity & acceptance

Alan Ford's Brick Top in Snatch
Actors & actresses very, very rarely capture the incredibly difficult, uncanny essence of "I am a sociopath" that (to me) radiates like stink lines off actual sociopaths.
Ford succeeded in doing so for this unserious, played-for-black-comedy part.
Ms. Penny Oaken (@skywitches.net):
The Joker. These two actors' renditions.
Ledger doesn't give me the stink lines, but clearly did his research and I think if it weren't "a comic book movie", if I didn't know him from other roles, he might.
Phoenix inhabits the Incel sociopath aspect. 10/10.
Ms. Penny Oaken (@skywitches.net):
Natalie Wynn's Lenora LaVey from the Pronouns video of her ContraPoints series.
A trans woman, a drag queen, a sendup of the sexpot Horror Movie Hostess archetype, the unreliable narrator, the Id of criticism, references to the Addams Family & RHPS & all the sexploitation shlock. A real howl.
Ms. Penny Oaken (@skywitches.net):
Qveen Herby
Blurs the line between performer and persona, because she reinvented herself after a popstar career. Larger than life, girlbossing in all the best ways, the confident nametaker and asskicker coven leader that breaks all the written rules and knows the esoteric laws.

Speaking of blurring the line between performer and persona, the world's 579th greatest rapper. The producer of the nerdy soundtrack of quite a bit of my life.

Zac Oyama's Defendant on Make Some Noise, "A Defendant …"
Everyone loves Brennan's Defense Attorney, but my God, Brennan is just pitching - Zac swings & knocks it out of the park.
...Ms. Penny Oaken (@skywitches.net):
August Diehl's Sturmbannführer Dieter Hellstrom in Inglorious Basterds. Great actors all around, the story is debatable as to its qualities, but this character embodies the Nazi "virtue" of "grave-loyalty", the blind obedience & unwavering loyalty to the cause.
He is thrilled to die for the cause.
Ms. Penny Oaken (@skywitches.net):
(And also, he is A Nazi. The rest of the German military in the room are German Military, technically Nazis, but they're there for God & Country. StBFhr Hellstrom is a Nazi, & the jig was up before he came around the corner. The spies were pulling rank wrong, the enlisted guy sensed it but -

the Major knew it. He was making them dance for him until they broke. He wanted them to sweat. )

John Inman's Mister Humphries in Are You Being Served?
He stood out as three dimensional, despite being written as a stereotype, and was a character who happened to be funny, rather than a funny character.
Ms. Penny Oaken (@skywitches.net):
This YouTuber, Julie, does whole voices and characters for her ferrets, and Nugget is a rascal. So much lore and complexity. She makes all of her ferrets characters, but Nugget is my fave.

Missy, scenery chewing scene stealing Missy
Ms. Penny Oaken (@skywitches.net):
Granny Weatherwax, for all of her, and particularly for the bit with the anvil in Carpe Jugulum. Fantastic writing.
Ms. Penny Oaken (@skywitches.net):
"And Hitler ended up in a ditch, covered in petrol, on fire!
… so, /that's fun/. I think that's /funny/!
'Cause he was a mass-murdering /frickhead/!
And that was his honeymoon as well!"
Ms. Penny Oaken (@skywitches.net):
The Angel Castiel, Dean Winchester's Superego
Ms. Penny Oaken (@skywitches.net):
The Wachowski sisters did a kind thing in writing their anthropomorphic avatar of one aspect of the Axiom of Determinacy as a kind, wise, sweet grandmotherly type.
She would see the Halting Problem as a Halting Opportunity.

This character, created for a soap advertisement campaign. He's just this guy, but man, is he passionate about the soap he's selling, and he oozes charm, confidence, wit, sauciness & etc. The firm that makes these campaigns & the troupe of improv comedians performing in them really hit a win.

Langley, Frohike, & Byers. The Lone Gunmen. I wish all the AM Radio Conspiracy Truther Gumshoes were more like these guys - methodical, skeptical in the true sense, critical, and fearless.

Heather Donohue, The Blair Witch Project
She's unique and compelling.
(Reminder that the studio swindled the actors out of their rightful compensation.)
Ms. Penny Oaken (@skywitches.net):
Mrs. Carmody, The Mist
You can't reduce her to a Karen or a religious kook. At one point in the film she utters the phrase "My life for you", which is a whole rabbithole in the SKCU (Stephen King Cinematic Universe).
