Liz Fong-Jones (@lizthegrey.com):

Oh, that's a cute attack pattern. Jump scare people with a hate site's name and logo, get screenshotted and blocked, then rename to copy an existing user's profile so that you can yell that you've been unfairly blocked and that the list operator is biased or trolling.

This is why screenshots exist!

Liz Fong-Jones (@lizthegrey.com):

They're getting even sneakier, and not just renaming their profile display name, bio, and profile photo, but also renaming the account under the same DID to make it look even more like a false positive. Evidence in photos (see alt text).

The latter two screenshots are the exact same account!

I thought renaming history on bluesky is public? I guess I was mistaken?

Liz Fong-Jones (@lizthegrey.com):

it is, but the main tool people use for tracking renames unless they want to look at PLCs is clearsky; clearsky is down. but internect.info is up at least.

internect.info - Resolve a Bluesky handle

Ms. Penny Oaken, SkyWitch (@skywitches.net):

Am I right in believing that the history isn't stored natively on BlueSky's infrastructure, that it's entirely third parties recording DID <-> domain pairs and noting when the domain is changed -?

Liz Fong-Jones (@lizthegrey.com):

I'm not enough of an expert in this, but iirc it's recorded in a merkle tree somewhere so it's invalid without the full history? I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong.

Liz Fong-Jones (@lizthegrey.com):

An expert confirmed to me that yes, it's stored with the account data, so you don't have to be subscribed to the firehose at the moment the handle change happened to be able to retroactively see it.

Ms. Penny Oaken, SkyWitch (@skywitches.net):

I just have to locate the API call that returns the values! Whee
