I am still really, really bitter about them killing third party apps. They should have handled that so much better.

They didn't. The third party apps were killing them - stripping adverts, using the API far in excess of throttle by circumventing it, not paying for use, & other issues.
They had a goose laying golden eggs, & when they were asked to be equitable, killed themselves
