They just don't know what attracts them. Id love to say their goals are nefarious, but they generally give advice of what they think they'd want.
It turns out we tend to be intrigued by people that do things we don't like. Of course they say call the next day, because they hate spending 2 days pining to hear from the guy they like. But those two days make them like you more.
