Here's the /r/Catholicism thread discussing his announcement, I don't use :marseygroomer: unlike our jannies and it's not my fault the announcement was made there.

I might not have made this thread over here but a few of our resident :marseyluthersoy: have taken it upon themselves to criticize His Holiness this morning so I thought I'd balance it out with something wholesome.

@Eleganza remember the other day when I said he doesn't accurately represent the positions of Protestants let alone Catholics/Orthodox? Well, he agreed and decided to call it quits.

!Christians !Catholics :marsey#nouautism: Be respectful and I won't :marseyban: any heretics.

I'm pretty sure he's going to end up Catholic, half of the videos he's posted lately are better arguments for Catholicism than Presbyterianism. I wish his reconquista movement success in the meantime though.

The Catholics I know who follow him have said he'd become increasingly hostile to us in the last year with insta posts (?) or something so I'm not sure where he'll end up. I wish him no ill but will admit I'm glad he's calling it quits until he's taken more time reading and engaging with other points of view.

William Lane Craig and Gavin Ortlund are presently the only frequently found on YouTube Prots who I've found are generally capable of defending their views without strawmanning Catholics/Orthodox belief.

His videos were interesting, but I did get the feeling he was just talking out of his butt a lot of the time. I'm not very informed about Christianity in general but he seemed to have an easily digestible answer for everything which I know in religious debate is rarely if ever the case

What's your take on holy rollers

Pentecostals are the most visible present iteration of them, but they go back further to 19th century Methodists. My views are generally negative, they mistake positive emotional experience for God and private revelations. I think this is a criticism that could be levied at the expression/nature of faith of many lay Evangelicals, as well. A term coined by sociologists that has filtered into usage in Christian circles is "moralistic therapeutic deism":

A God exists who created and ordered the world and watches over human life on earth.

God wants people to be good, nice, and fair to each other, as taught in the Bible and by most world religions.

The central goal of life is to be happy and to feel good about oneself.

God does not need to be particularly involved in one's life except when God is needed to resolve a problem.

Good people go to heaven when they die.

This type of belief is neither Orthodox nor orthodox to more serious Protestants and I find holy rollers would be a prime example. Having said that they're sometimes funny for memes etc.

It's no coincidence many of the problems of modern society are directly traceable to the protestant reformation.

Hmm...I wonder if this means the kiddo is going to do that weird :marseyairquotes: "non-denominational" :marseyairquotes: route, or (perhaps more likely imo) end up losing his faith and becoming like, idk, one of those chuddy "Christcuckery is a bluepilling perversion created by (((them)))" euphorics... :tayshrug:

(I do hope he sees the other light in all of this lol)

0% chance he's going to a nondenom dance club church, 99.9% chance he's going to convert to some meme offshoot like Eastern Catholics not in Communion with Rome or something or Conservative Anglicans disavowing the Church of England

He's a YouTuber/memer that became popular in the last few years for making easily digestible (but admittedly inaccurate) apologetics videos with him playing Minecraft in the background. He's Presbyterian and started a whole "retvrn to tradition (but Protestant)" thing for the zimzooms.

"Retvrn to tradition" by going all in on a denomination with lesbian priests and an average age of 75

Honestly any retvrn to tradition Protestant is probably gonna trend the opposite direction if they actually do any reading on what Luther, Calvin etc. had to say about Rabbinic Judaism. Anyway, no antisemitism here, please. :marseywholesome:

"O Lord, grant us that love which can never die, which will enkindle our lamps but not extinguish them, so that they may shine in us and bring light to others. Most dear Savior, enkindle our lamps that they may shine forever in your temple. May we receive unquenchable light from you so that our darkness will be illuminated and the darkness of the world will be made less. Amen." - Saint Columba of Iona
