!catholics !christians happy 25th Sunday of Ordinary Time!

First Reading

The wicked say:

Let us beset the just one, because he is obnoxious to us;

he sets himself against our doings,

reproaches us for transgressions of the law

and charges us with violations of our training.

Let us see whether his words be true;

let us find out what will happen to him.

For if the just one be the son of God, God will defend him

and deliver him from the hand of his foes.

With revilement and torture let us put the just one to the test

that we may have proof of his gentleness

and try his patience.

Let us condemn him to a shameful death;

for according to his own words, God will take care of him.

-Wisdom 2:12, 17-20

Responsorial Psalm

R. (6b) The Lord upholds my life.

O God, by your name save me,

and by your might defend my cause.

O God, hear my prayer;

hearken to the words of my mouth.

R. The Lord upholds my life.

For the haughty men have risen up against me,

the ruthless seek my life;

they set not God before their eyes.

R. The Lord upholds my life.

Behold, God is my helper;

the Lord sustains my life.

Freely will I offer you sacrifice;

I will praise your name, O LORD, for its goodness.

R. The Lord upholds my life.

-Psalms 54:3-4, 5, 6, and 8

Second Reading

Beloved:

Where jealousy and selfish ambition exist,

there is disorder and every foul practice.

But the wisdom from above is first of all pure,

then peaceable, gentle, compliant,

full of mercy and good fruits,

without inconstancy or insincerity.

And the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace

for those who cultivate peace.

Where do the wars

and where do the conflicts among you come from?

Is it not from your passions

that make war within your members?

You covet but do not possess.

You kill and envy but you cannot obtain;

you fight and wage war.

You do not possess because you do not ask.

You ask but do not receive,

because you ask wrongly, to spend it on your passions.

-James 3:16-4:3

Alleluia

R. Alleluia, alleluia.

God has called us through the Gospel

to possess the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.

R. Alleluia, alleluia.

-2 Thessalonians 2:14

Gospel

Jesus and his disciples left from there and began a journey through Galilee,

but he did not wish anyone to know about it.

He was teaching his disciples and telling them,

"The Son of Man is to be handed over to men

and they will kill him,

and three days after his death the Son of Man will rise."

But they did not understand the saying,

and they were afraid to question him.

They came to Capernaum and, once inside the house,

he began to ask them,

"What were you arguing about on the way?"

But they remained silent.

They had been discussing among themselves on the way

who was the greatest.

Then he sat down, called the Twelve, and said to them,

"If anyone wishes to be first,

he shall be the last of all and the servant of all."

Taking a child, he placed it in their midst,

and putting his arms around it, he said to them,

"Whoever receives one child such as this in my name, receives me;

and whoever receives me,

receives not me but the One who sent me."

-Mark 9:30-37

I find the Old Testament reading today interesting because it seems to very obviously apply to Jesus. There must've been many would-be Messiahs during the time of Christ, otherwise the Jewish leadership would've been more reluctant to go after someone claiming to be the Messiah.

Yesterday was the fricking Solemnity of Our Lady of Penafrancia in the fricking Philippines. Didn't travel out to Bicol this year (did last year) but it had 1.5 million attendees for the fricking procession and even in Manila the fricking Homily ended up being tangentially related, our priest bemoaned the fricking commodification of devotion to the fricking saints in the fricking form of statues/images/etc. and stressed that devotion to the fricking Blessed Virgin and to the fricking saints should always be in relation to their devotion to Christ.

Wisdom of Sirach is fricking one of the fricking books the fricking Rabbinic Jews/Prots excluded from their canon. Anyway Josephus in Antiquities of the fricking Jews does record that there were no fricking fewer than 12 in the fricking century before/after Christ. With the fricking exception of a fricking group of Iraqis who still follow St. John the fricking Baptist none of these would-be Christs garnered any type of lasting following. !Catholics

I'm not a Catholic (at least not yet) but I hope you'll let me say this:

Today I was researching various saints for some historical thing and I was reminded of Oscar Romero. He's gotta be one of the greatest heroes of the 20th Century for the entire world. If you don't know about him yet, look him up. And not on wikipedia which tries to portray him as a communist.

He's very popular in Latinx parishes especially out in the fricking southwest. A fricking recent topic of discussion in the fricking ping group has been labor rights and the fricking Church's position on them.

:marseyfacepalm: On the one hand I genuinely regret some of what I said in our back and forths before, on the other hand everyone else involved are even bigger spergs and thankfully my involvement has been completely overshadowed and forgotten.

I have a few fans who follow me around being jerks, too, so I know it can be annoying. They did give you good advice btw to ignore rather than Streisand it, but the damage has unfortunately been done and I will keep my word to continue staying out of things moving forward. :marseysalutetrans:

You've chosen to post/fund the fricking posting of blasphemy in efforts to bait me so I don't see allowing you to participate generating anything worthwhile. If you decide to repent someday the fricking Church would welcome you with open arms. :marseyembrace: :marseyandjesus: I genuinely hope you do.

"O Lord, grant us that love which can never die, which will enkindle our lamps but not extinguish them, so that they may shine in us and bring light to others. Most dear Savior, enkindle our lamps that they may shine forever in your temple. May we receive unquenchable light from you so that our darkness will be illuminated and the darkness of the world will be made less. Amen." - Saint Columba of Iona
