I've always kinda hated Steve Skojec's work, just to be honest. The website he'd previously set up is rightoid ragebait material in the same vein as Taylor Marshall and all of the other sede pseudointellectuals who somehow expect the Church to launch another crusade or force everyone to be miserable shut-ins running around calling everyone heretics 24/7. They love to nitpick and point at every off the cuff remark but when you ask them to defend their position they crumble. :marseyshrug:

I will pray for his soul, and for all of those amongst us who struggle with TLM-related restrictions and changes.

I guess what appeals to me is that I also love to nitpick.

FWIW I did read this article, I just find these types frustrating because they gesture at the Pope being a supposed heretic and doing all these awful things, but then when you ask for examples the most they can come up with is the death penalty section of the Catechism, some statements that could've been more clear, a willingness to dialogue with people who disagree or are from other faiths...

and their actual genuine beef: Pope Francis responding to the radicalized elements of the TLM Steve Skojec having been part of that by restricting it. :marseyshrug: I've been to TLM parishes, like the Mass itself, but walked away from my experiences understanding exactly why Rome has responded the way they have. Rather than functioning as a pipeline for SSPX etc. to return to full communion it ends up being a breeding ground for more schism. Which is a shame, because many attendees are quite pious and it's important for historical reasons to keep it alive in some form so that we can still see what a Requiem Mass set to Mozart would've looked like.
