basic human phsychology, country borders are a zero-sum game, since only one country can have each area, and if you end up on the wrong side of the border, then you'll be a minority there, and the majority nation will discriminate against you, so your chance is to stick with your own, this frequently leads to hositilities between the two nations, (sometimes it can go really wrong like in the Balkans), anyways the point is that's it's rational human behaviour.

If a Romanian were to scamper through your front door right now, would you greet it with hostility? Has a Romanian ever done anything to you to create this animosity you feel towards them? I propose to you, any disease a Romanian could spread, a Serbian could equally carry. Would you agree? But they're both subhumans, are they not? And except for the forehead, they even rather look alike, don't they?
However interesting as the thought may be, it makes not one bit of difference to how you feel. We sadly had really bad and stupid leaders, who made bad choices. I mean Horthy was installed by the Romanians after Romanians beat the Hungarian communists. They knew Horthy will be bad for us. Genuine question, was all that land considered part of Hungary before WWI ended? I feel like most people see Austria-Hungary simply as an evolution of the Austrian Empire especially since it was still led by the Hapsburgs.
