Zyklon B had a more brutal effect though.
The cyanide capsules they bit were made of glass, biting them opened a would inside the mouth by which the cyanide would then enter straight into the bloodstream. You would suffer from loss of consciousness within 15 seconds followed by brain death after a few minutes.
The gas chamber victims agonized for several minutes before brain death. They would urinate, defecate and the women would menstruate and all would vomit and suffer from violent convulsions before dying, the whole process took around 25 minutes. Then the sonderkommandos would enter with gas masks to dispose the bodies and clean the place.
