Also fun fact: Shortly before the film came out, there were calls for the movie to be banned in Germany, and for it to be boycotted in the US and elsewhere, not because of anything related to Nazism, but simply because in Germany, the Church of Scientology is de-facto classified as a malignant business conglomerate masquerading as a religion, and thus, it is not classified as a religion in the country, is not tax-exempt, and is closely monitored as an "anti-constitutional" group much like Neo-Nazis are, and Tom Cruise, as a high-ranking member and spokesman, was obviously on their radar.
The German domestic intelligence service is constantly monitoring the organization and mentions them in their annual review about anti-constitutional activities. The German government does not recognize Scientology as a religion; rather, it views it as an abusive business masquerading as a religion and believes that it pursues political goals that conflict with the values enshrined in the German constitution.
Scientologists in Germany do not enjoy tax benefits or protection as do other religions. They are, like other sects not granted status of a religion, barred from membership in some major political parties, and businesses and other employers use so-called "sect filters" to expose a prospective business partner's or employee's association with the organization.
The Stauffenberg family said that it was insulting for a cultist like Cruise to portray their national hero, and since this was 2008, there were also anti-Scientology protests due to Project Chanology, and anti-Scientologist calls to boycott the movie.
R-slurs have nothing better to do. Good luck with all the extremists Muslims you imported. The older LEOs have surely been wishing for the good old Tom Cruise Menace days.

He had that deformed german chad phenotype a cool eyepatch and said of Polish people that "they are diligent, hard-working and undemanding" (not sure about the context, but that probably doesn't matter much).
All in all, I'm sure he was a decent person.
Somewhere deep within.
Maybe.
Well, we'll never know due to Hitler's plot armor.
The 20 July plot members were a mixed bag, many were Nazis who only turned on Hitler as they saw the writing on the wall that defeat was imminent. But Stauffenberg and Treskow were particularly disturbed by the atrocities committed by the National-Socialists and seemed to have been guided by more moral purposes.
Regardless of that, had they succeeded millions of lives could have been spared.

Yeah, I heard that he was upset about the eastern front, and not only the losing but the mass murdering too.
I don't know how much he cared really though.
And I can't be bothered to check any sources.
