The North Vietnamese did something similar to the 101st just before my dad got there. They ambushed a bunch of guys and they took cover in a crater. They had already rigged up a 155mm shell there. They planned out the whole thing.
Reminds me of a line from an old Israeli movie. "They're not stupid, you know."

Considering the ra was like 40% Brit spies and barely had any weaponry (that one photo of like 5 dudes beside a proudly displayed revolver comes to mind) it's pretty remarkable what they managed to get done. Another interesting saga from this time is the South Armagh Sniper, where somehow they managed to get a fricking .50 BMG sniper and ammo and targeted patrols.
I learned of the Troubles relatively early in life and saw a bunch of parallels between it and the perpetual sandshit saga. It felt like for a while things were progressing towards a GFA-style ceasefire and peace but it's a shame it didn't. Attacks like Warrenpoint and the South Armagh Sniper destroying morale against soldiers so they'd not want to fight or patrol while fricking up civilian infrastructure in a way that minimised civilian casualties (Manchester for example) seems like a pretty good approach, when they weren't doing shit like Kingsmill.
Feels like Hamas has fricked that for Palestine, at least for this generation. Good news is that generations in Palestine are so short because everyone dies young so they get to try again soon. I hope it happens, because I want to see the Sandshit versions of stragglers when everyone else has moved on like Saoradh and Michael Stone

Tbf I think he may have been cheating by firing from the Republic. At least some of the time. Don't quote me on that but it's a suspicion I have.
