The frwnch revolution was right about one thing: some people's heads and their necks shouldn't necessarily be connected. Behead redditards!

Because the American Revolution was really just about tax evasion.

As far as I can tell, it isn't, so that whole thread is based on a false premise. From what I've seen, historians usually have more nuanced views than just seeing either the American or the French revolution as the main catalyst for global democracy.

Yeah it would be weird to consider either as the catalyst when it was more generally a wealthy middle class demanding representation and need for expanded government institutions to handle an expanding global economy that eventually lead to the liberalization of most autocracies in europe.

It was a long running movement in England itself forever

I would put the 1848 revolutions above either of them, but I guess you could make the argument that they were inspired the the French Revolution

The French Revolution didn't work and should be considered a massive failure because Napoleon used the Revolutionary People's Army as an Emperor.

Napoleon did more to export the ideals of the revolution than anyone, by the end of the Napoleonic war most european great powers had adopted revolutionary government institutions to beat the french :m#arseynapoleon2:

Napoleon exported the idea of a People's Army because he was the only dude that could brag about expending 30,000 soldiers every month because he's the only one with an army of that size.

This forced the other monarchs to capitulate and arm their citizenry too.

It's biggest effect was enabling as many people that died in WW1 just because there were that many people to kill. And they were still subjects to Kings, Kaisers, and Autocrats.

So Napoleon caused the collapse of the Germans, Austrian, British and Russian empire, all is well :marseyoldguard:

The French Revolution was influenced and partially triggered by the American Revolution, so 1776 is more important than 1789.

Meanwhile !neolibs know the real most important revolution was the one in 1688

Because the French have been held as the pinnacle of culture in Europe for centuries so the other Yuropoors essentially just copy whatever the French do.

Europeans are a garbage race and should be exterminated first. Then we can do the Asians and finish the job off with the Africans. Abos will just naturally go extinct once the australians are all dead.

Aussies did a disservice by keeping around the one tribe of people who haven't figured out fire.

I can ignore the fact that a lot of Africans never figured out the wheel or animal husbandry due to the geographical issues of Africa, but not learning how to make fire is an entirely different problem. Literally subhuman.

Anyone who passed circular objects more less discovered the wheel, but wheels aren't very useful in dense jungles. Like wise animal husbandry is pretty difficult when you live on thr closes thing to catachan in real life.

Most Africans were living in the plains, not the jungle. Dipshit.

Not gonna read the thread but the answer is simple, the US at the time was some colonial backwater and France was a metropolitan juggernaut that most other Euro nations were already copying. France itself was 100% influenced by the rhetoric and actions of the American Revolution, but the world was influenced by the French Revolution

lol what a bunch of cute twinks, every comment on the page is so fricking stupid

If you are going to argue that Europe was the catalyst for global democracy you need to at least mention the Corsican patriot Pasquale Paoli who many of the American revolutionaries were followers of. You can even find a bunch of things named after him because they thought so highly of him.

Did the American Revolution help catalyze the French?

I'm sure Lafayette wasn't influenced at all by the big fricking cause he gave years of his life to.

:marseyfacepalm:

The idea that the big fricking world war they just fought had no impact on France is just bonkers. The war where they finally beat England. The war where they lost on every other front but America was the only thing that really mattered.

Not just Lafayette, a big swath of the French upper classes became fond of the idea of a constitution and the end of absolutism because of the American Revolution. Not to mention that French aid was a huge expense and one of the causes of the events of 1789.

But the you could also say that the founding fathers were heavily influenced by Rousseau's writings and the whole thing becomes a wash
