Did the American Revolution help catalyze the French?

I'm sure Lafayette wasn't influenced at all by the big fricking cause he gave years of his life to.

The idea that the big fricking world war they just fought had no impact on France is just bonkers. The war where they finally beat England. The war where they lost on every other front but America was the only thing that really mattered.

Not just Lafayette, a big swath of the French upper classes became fond of the idea of a constitution and the end of absolutism because of the American Revolution. Not to mention that French aid was a huge expense and one of the causes of the events of 1789.
