I did it myself lol. It didn't harm me physically if that's what you're implying, I burned like 1.5k/day with cardio and always ate sub 500 cals. With two fast days a week.
He doesn't want to do cardio until he's at like a 20-22 BMI. Otherwise he'll break something important.
