I tend to follow this recipe pretty closely, but will modify parts depending on ingredient availability and personal preference, like an extra half spoon of paprika. I usually drop the white wine, some of the brown sugar, and sometimes the Worchestshire sauce. For the extra protein, I might switch out the smaller can of tomatoes and put in some extra beans.
There's two ways that I approach adding some Trader Joe's Salsa Verde to the chili. The first milder option is to just use a tiny bit at the end instead of using sour cream. The second way is to replace the whole can of tomato paste with a few spoonfuls of the salsa.
Once everything's in a pot, cooking to taste is the best option.
