frick yeah
At my old house the they had plumbed the water line from the RO setup to the fridge. But because of the way it was split to the spigot, often when the fridge's ice maker would pull water from the tank, the pressure it used was so slight that the valving would not snap back and it resulted in constant water flow. Pretty common I guess. I ended up removing the split and keeping it just at the spigot since we also had a big separate pebble ice maker and we filled it with the RO.

If you live in a city that's not a national punchline for failing in this specific failure, nothing coming out of your tap is anywhere close to unfiltered. Your water goes through massive amounts of treatment and filtration before it gets to your house. And if you're on well water without running it through a filtration system... Lol that little Brita or refrigerator is not going to cut it. If your water is coming out of the tap too hard it can make you sick though, even if you're using a proper filter as bacteria can come through encased in those hard molecules. But that's more if you're on well water that's hard enough to cause stains or leaves a residue. In those cases you should probably look into a softening system

If it tastes bad get a filter. Otherwise .
The real problem with tap water is usually not cold enough so you've always gotta have ice.

I only filter my water if I'm drinking it straight from the river. Other than that tap water is fine

I do. It's regulated and checked frequently, so no reason not do.
But I do love my sparkling water, so I often buy water as well.
