Or anything with sort of conquest, manifest destiny kinda of themes? I have been illuminated with inspiration recently about the optimism of this time period and about the arrival of Euros in North America. Also euros exploring and interacting with other remote parts of the world. Settlement and colonialism is very exciting and dramatic (sometimes taboo in my culture), any good movies?

Have you seen Fitzcarraldo? It's about a crazy euro who wants to build an opera house in the middle of the South American jungle. The star, Klaus Kinski, was one of the most dramapilled individuals to ever walk the earth. The making-of documentary Burden of Dreams is fantastic too.
Aguirre, the Wrath of God is another Werner Herzog film starring Kinski set in the 16th century. Kinski plays an insane conquistador searching for El Dorado.
