Basically. They don't want to accept most little girls daydream about love stories instead of being CEO.
They equate marriage and love with female weakness, and frankly that's pretty sad. Nor do they understand traditional story structure enough to appreciate (for example) that a princes and princess marrying after a brief time isn't meant to be a literal instruction manual for life, but a narrative technique. Ending a folktale with the prince and princess entering a multi-year courtship process makes for as satisfying an ending as having a young rulers story end with having tax negotiations with his lords instead of a crowning. It's all about completing the story and character arc, not being real world correct.
In other words, there's basically no ability not to look at story through an overly critical and literal modernest lens, which allows no room for magic or earnestness. Which is why it all feels shallow.

Because they've jettisoned established talent in favor of cheap, young hack writers who design by committee, are obsessed with โsubverting expectations,' lack a strong foundation in folklore or story theory, and wrongly believe romance is incompatible with active female leads. Any writers with strong enough vision, talent, and power to tell the suits and DEIers to frick off and let them create art appear to have been intentionally isolated as potential rivals. It never occurs to suits you actually need those people and the public won't buy their slop carefully approved by twitter and cheap, newly hired college graduate ideologues until it's too late.
The same thing is happening in publishing and music.
