I remember reading the book and it's so depressing people might turn on this show, too.
Broadly similar reasons, you kind of tease these heroic mythic "Return of the King" tropes and then it just ends in senseless, empty bloodbath.

GOT became bad after s04 because they changed too much shit. this season will make or break this show for me, S01 was worth watching but they changed a lot from the og book. if they can rein it in a little the show will be Good. if they keep changing everything then it will be Bad.

They're trying to tie it into the main show with the dagger and prophecy and shit, pretty strange choice imo given how poorly the white walker storyline was received in the end.
